Amber is solidified and homogenized pine resin, mainly from the Baltic and North Sea region, created between 30 and 90 million years ago. Amber does not have a defined chemical formula, because it is a mixture of resins. In most areas of the Baltic, amber has been exhausted, after centuries of collecting it by people. Today it is primarily harvested from the Kaliningrad region of Russia, which has the largest remaining quantities of amber. It was known to the Mycenaean and the ancient Greeks who called it the electron. With this, Thales the Milesian conducted experiments and observed phenomena that today are classified as electricity. Electricity got its name from electron.
