Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious stone. Its main component is lapis lazuli, which is responsible for its characteristic blue color, called azure blue. It also contains calcite and wollastonite, as well as small crystals of ferropyrite, which give it a metallic sheen. Its name comes from the Persian word "Lazward" (=blue) or from the Arabic "Azul" which means blue, while the word Lapis comes from "Lapis", meaning stone.
